Schedule course-wide messages to communicate with students

Use the Messages feature to communicate with all of your students enrolled in your course

The Messages section can be accessed in the "Manage Course" menu under "Content" — Not sure where to find the "Course Settings" menu? Follow the first steps listed here.

System Messages

There are several kinds of system (or automated) and manual emails you can send your students from your course, depending on which course type you have.

If you have a Full Access course type, you have the option to send automated "Welcome" messages (an email that's sent to your students as soon as they enroll) and "Invitation" messages (an email that's sent to any person you choose to invite to your course for free).

If you have Drip-Released Programs (either Calendar-Based Release or Individual Release Dates) for your course type, you will see an additional system email, the "Start of Module" message (an email that's sent to your students as soon as a new module becomes available based on the schedule you created for them to release).

How to Customize Your System Messages

All course types allow you to also create custom messages (more on this below) as well as customize any of the system emails.

Just add new text, images, links, etc. or edit existing text in any of the system emails to make them as personalized as you like!

Tip: Locate the hamburger icon to insert custom fields into your email (all of the custom fields in your email have 3 curly brackets on each side, like {{{give-name}}} which will automatically generate when your email sends to your students)

Tip: Don't want a system email to send to your students? Toggle off the email and it will no longer be sent.

You'll see that the message has been disabled:

How to Create a Custom Message

You can create a custom email to send your students if you want to send anything in addition to the system emails.

Note: Meetings have their own messages (learn more here — you can scroll down to step #7).

Create a custom subject and body of your email by typing right into the spaces provided (you also have the same abilities to customize the look and feel of your email as you do with the system emails — see the "How to Customize Your System Messages" section above).

Click the "Schedule Message" button when you're ready:

Note: You can schedule to send your message depending on which course type you have.

If you have a Full Access or Calendar-Based Release course type, you can schedule your custom messages to send to your students on a particular date and time.

Be sure to click the "Schedule Message" button when you've selected the date and time you want:

If you have an Individual Release for your course type, you can schedule your custom messages to send to your students based on the day they each enrolled (example, "Day 1" would be the first day they enrolled) and at a particular time of that day.

Be sure to click the "Schedule Message" button when you've selected the day and time you want:

Tip: Go ahead and preview your messages to see what they'll look like in their final form!

You can also send yourself a preview to your inbox by clicking the button at the bottom that says "Send to" and then it will display your account email address:
