Delete a module or lesson
In this article: How to permanently remove a module or lesson from your course.
All Plans
Before You Start
Deleting a module removes the module and all of its lessons. Deleting a lesson removes that single lesson. Both actions are permanent. If you're not sure you want to remove content, consider hiding the module instead (toggle it to Hidden in the Modules & Lessons outline).
Important: There is no way to recover deleted modules, lessons, or courses. Double-check before you delete.
Delete a Module
- Open the Manage Course menu (Cmd+K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows) and click Modules & Lessons.
- Find the module you want to delete and click its title (shown in blue).

- Click the trash can icon next to Delete Module.

The module and all its lessons are removed immediately.
Delete a Lesson
- Open the lesson you want to delete (make sure you're in editing mode, not Student View).
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the dark gray Actions bar.
- Click Actions, then click Delete.

The lesson is removed immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I undo a deletion?
No. Deleted modules and lessons cannot be recovered. If you're unsure, hide the module instead of deleting it, or copy the lesson to another course as a backup before deleting.
What happens to student progress when I delete a module or lesson?
Any completion data for deleted lessons is removed along with the lesson. If a student had marked the lesson as complete, that progress disappears from their record.
Can I delete a module but keep its lessons?
Not directly. Deleting a module removes all lessons inside it. To keep the lessons, drag them into a different module in the Modules & Lessons outline first, then delete the empty module.
