Restrict modules to specific price points

In this article: How to control which modules students can access based on the price point they purchased, so you can offer different content tiers within a single course.

All Plans

Before You Start

By default, all enrolled students can access every module in your course. But sometimes you want to offer different levels of content at different prices. For example, you might have a standard tier that includes the core modules and a VIP tier that also unlocks bonus modules with extra resources, live Q&A recordings, or advanced material.

Module restrictions let you set this up without creating separate courses. You create multiple price points, then choose which modules each price point can access.

Restrict a Module to Specific Price Points

  1. Open the Manage Course menu (Cmd+K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows) and click Modules & Lessons.
  2. Click the title of the module you want to restrict (shown in blue).
  3. In the module settings, find the price point access options.
  4. Select which price points should have access to this module. Only students who purchased one of the selected price points will see this module.
  5. Save your changes.

Students who purchased a price point that doesn't include this module won't see it in their course outline at all. They won't know it exists unless you tell them.

Tip: Use this to create a "VIP" or "Premium" experience. Keep your core content available to everyone, and restrict bonus modules (extra resources, behind-the-scenes content, advanced lessons) to higher-priced tiers. This gives students a reason to upgrade.

Example Setup

Say you're running a photography course with two pricing tiers:

  • Standard ($97): 6 core modules covering fundamentals
  • VIP ($197): All 6 core modules plus 2 bonus modules with editing tutorials and a private Q&A recording

You'd create two price points, then restrict the 2 bonus modules so only the VIP price point has access. Students who pay $97 see the 6 core modules. Students who pay $197 see all 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I change a module's price point restrictions after students are enrolled?
Changes take effect immediately. If you add a restriction, students who don't have the required price point will lose access to that module. If you remove a restriction, all enrolled students will gain access.
Can I restrict individual lessons instead of entire modules?
No. Price point restrictions apply at the module level. If you need to restrict specific lessons, put them in their own module and restrict that module.
Do I need to set up price points first?
Yes. You need at least two price points before module restrictions are useful. See Create and manage price points to set those up.
