When you'd turn captions off

On Ruzuku Pro, captions and transcripts are generated automatically for every video and audio file you upload. This is on by default, and most creators leave it on because it improves accessibility and helps students find content.

You might want to turn captions off for a specific course if:

The course contains sensitive content you don't want transcribed.
The auto-generated captions aren't accurate for your content (for example, highly specialized terminology).
You prefer to provide your own written materials instead of auto-generated transcripts.

How to turn captions off (or back on)

Open the course you want to change.
Go to Manage Course and click Course Settings.

Click Captions and Transcripts.
Toggle the setting to hide captions and transcripts. When the toggle is on (colored), captions and transcripts are hidden from students.

Click Save.

To turn captions back on later, return to the same setting and toggle it off (gray). Captions will reappear for students.

Tip: This setting controls visibility per course. Turning off captions on one course doesn't affect your other courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does turning off captions delete the generated transcripts?

No. Hiding captions just prevents students from seeing them. The transcripts are still stored. If you turn captions back on later, they'll reappear without needing to be regenerated.

Can I turn captions off for individual lessons instead of the whole course?

No. The caption setting applies to the entire course. You can't enable captions for some lessons and disable them for others within the same course.

Is this setting available on the Core plan?

No. Automatic captions and transcripts (and the toggle to control them) are Pro-only features.
