Download meeting recordings

In this article: How to enable recording for your live meetings, where to find recordings after the meeting ends, and how you and your students can download them.

All Plans

Why record your meetings?

Live meetings are some of the most valuable content you create. A great Q&A session, a live coaching demo, or a guest expert interview doesn't have to disappear when the call ends. Recording your meetings lets you:

  • Give students who missed the live session a way to catch up
  • Build a library of reusable content from your live teaching
  • Let students revisit key moments at their own pace

Ruzuku's built-in meeting types (Video Conference and Presentation) can record your sessions automatically. For Zoom meetings, recordings upload to Ruzuku automatically through the integration. External meeting types don't have built-in recording — you'll need to handle that in your external tool.

Enable recording for a meeting

Recording is turned on by default for Ruzuku's built-in meeting types. Here's how to check or change the setting:

For Video Conference or Presentation meetings

  1. Go to Manage Course → Meetings.
  2. Click on the meeting you want to configure (or create a new one).
  3. Choose Video Conference or Presentation as the meeting type.
  4. Look for the Record Event toggle. Make sure it's turned on.
  5. (Optional) Toggle Allow download on if you want students to be able to download the recording file after the meeting.
  6. Click Create Meeting (for a new meeting) or save your changes.
Tip: Set the meeting duration longer than you expect the session to run. The recording runs for the full scheduled duration, so it's better to overestimate. You can always end the meeting early — the recording will stop when you do.

For Zoom meetings

Zoom recordings work differently. Ruzuku doesn't control the recording; Zoom does.

  1. Set up your recording preferences inside your Zoom account settings (not in Ruzuku). You can enable auto-record for all meetings or start recording manually once the meeting begins.
  2. After the Zoom meeting ends and Zoom processes the recording, it automatically uploads to Ruzuku and appears on the meeting page.

You don't need to toggle anything in Ruzuku for Zoom recordings — they transfer over through the integration.

Note: Zoom cloud recordings can take several minutes to process after a meeting ends. The recording will appear on your Ruzuku meeting page once Zoom finishes processing.

For External meetings

External meetings (where you provide your own meeting URL) don't have built-in recording through Ruzuku. Record the session using your external tool, then upload the file to a lesson if you want to share it with students.

Find your recordings after a meeting

Once a meeting ends and the recording is processed:

  1. Go to Manage Course → Meetings.
  2. Click on the meeting that was recorded.
  3. Click Student View in the upper right corner of the screen.
  4. The recording appears on the meeting's detail page, ready to play.

Students who are enrolled in the course can access this same page and watch the recording at any time.

Download a recording

If you enabled the Allow download toggle when setting up the meeting, both you and your students can download the recording file.

  1. Navigate to the meeting page (either through Manage Course → Meetings or through the Student View).
  2. Find the recording on the meeting detail page.
  3. Click the Download button below the recording.

The file downloads to your computer as a video file. You can then use it however you like — re-upload it as lesson content, share it on another platform, or archive it for your records.

If you didn't enable Allow download, only you (the course creator) can access the recording through the Manage Course interface. Students can watch it on the meeting page but can't download the file.

Use recordings as lesson content

Recorded meetings make excellent lesson content. If you want to add a meeting recording to a regular lesson (so it lives alongside your other course materials):

  1. Download the recording file to your computer.
  2. Open the lesson where you want to add it.
  3. Click Add media and upload the video file.

This gives students a second way to access the content, and it keeps your course organized if you prefer recordings to live within the lesson structure rather than only on the meeting page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are meetings recorded automatically?
For Ruzuku's built-in Video Conference and Presentation meeting types, recording is on by default. You can toggle it off when setting up the meeting. For Zoom meetings, you control recording through your Zoom account settings. External meetings don't have built-in recording through Ruzuku.
How long does it take for a recording to appear?
For built-in meeting types, recordings are typically available within a few minutes of the meeting ending. For Zoom meetings, it depends on how long Zoom takes to process the cloud recording — usually 5 to 30 minutes depending on the meeting length.
Can I delete a recording?
You can delete or remove recordings from the meeting page if you don't want them accessible to students. Go to the meeting in Manage Course → Meetings and manage the recording from there.
Can students download recordings?
Only if you enable the Allow download toggle when setting up the meeting. If it's off, students can watch the recording on the meeting page but can't download the file.
What format are the recording files?
Recordings from Ruzuku's built-in meeting types are saved as standard video files (typically MP4). Zoom recordings follow Zoom's own format, which is also MP4 by default.
