Navigate your course

In this article: How to move through your course content, find specific lessons, play videos, download files, and track your progress.

All Plans

Once you are inside your course, everything is organized to be easy to find. Here is a walkthrough of how to get around.

Course structure: modules and lessons

Your course is divided into modules (the big sections) and lessons (the individual pages within each module).

Think of modules like chapters in a book. Each module contains one or more lessons, and each lesson has its own page with content for you to work through.

The module list

When you open your course, you will see a list of all the modules. On a computer, this usually appears as a sidebar on the left. On a phone or tablet, you may need to tap a menu icon to see it.

Each module shows its title and the lessons inside it. Click or tap a module to expand it and see the lessons. Then click a lesson to open it.

Lesson content

A lesson page can include any combination of:

  • Text — written instructions, explanations, or resources
  • Video — embedded video that plays right on the page
  • Audio — audio recordings you can listen to
  • Files — downloadable PDFs, worksheets, templates, or other documents
  • Discussion prompts — a place to share your thoughts and respond to other students
  • Assignments — work you submit for your instructor to review

You scroll down the page to see everything in the lesson.

Playing videos

If a lesson has a video, you will see a video player on the page. Click the play button to start it.

The player has standard controls for pause, play, volume, and full-screen. If you need to rewatch a section, drag the playback bar backward.

If the video is not loading or playing, try these steps:

  1. Refresh the page in your browser.
  2. Check your internet connection.
  3. Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge all work).
  4. Close other tabs or apps that might be using bandwidth.

For persistent video problems, see Getting Technical Support.

Downloading files

When your instructor includes downloadable files in a lesson, you will see them listed on the lesson page. Click the file name to download it to your computer or device.

Common file types include PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, images, and audio files. Files open with whatever app you normally use for that file type.

Tracking your progress

At the bottom of each lesson, you will see a Mark as Complete button. Click it when you finish a lesson.

This does two things:

  • It helps you remember where you left off. Completed lessons are marked with a checkmark in the module list so you can see at a glance what you have finished and what is next.
  • It lets your instructor see your progress through the course.

You can always go back to a completed lesson to review it.

Moving between lessons

After you finish a lesson, you can move to the next one in a couple of ways:

  • Click the next lesson link (usually at the bottom of the lesson page or in the sidebar)
  • Click any lesson in the module list to jump directly to it

If your instructor releases content on a schedule, some lessons may not be available yet. They will appear when your instructor makes them accessible.

Using the course menu

Besides the module list, your course may have a few other pages you can access:

  • Discussions — course-wide conversations where you can post questions and share ideas with other students
  • Meetings — upcoming and past live sessions with your instructor
  • Search — some courses include a search feature to help you find specific content by keyword

These pages appear in your course navigation alongside the module list.

I finished a lesson but forgot to mark it complete. Can I go back?
Yes. Open the lesson again from the module list and click Mark as Complete at the bottom. You can do this anytime.
Some lessons are locked. Why can't I access them?
Your instructor may be releasing content on a schedule. This is common in courses that run week by week or in cohort-based programs. New lessons will become available on the dates your instructor has set. Check your course welcome email or the course Discussions page for the schedule.
Can I use Ruzuku on my phone?
Yes. Ruzuku works in the browser on any phone or tablet. Use a recent version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. No app download is needed. You can also add your course to your phone's home screen for quicker access.
