Hide content from students
In this article: How to hide a module so students can't see it while you're building or updating content, and how to make it visible again when you're ready.

When to hide content
Hiding modules is useful when you're:
- Building content ahead of time and don't want students to see unfinished work.
- Preparing bonus material that you plan to release later.
- Temporarily removing a module for updates without deleting it.
Hidden modules don't appear in the student view at all. Students won't know they exist until you make them visible.
Hide a module
- Open your course and go to Manage Course (keyboard shortcut: Cmd+K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows).
- Click Modules & Lessons in the Content column.
- Click the title of the module you want to hide.
- Toggle the module to Hidden.
The module and all its lessons will disappear from the student view immediately. You can still access and edit the module as a course creator.
Make a hidden module visible again
- Go to Modules & Lessons in the Manage Course menu.
- Click the title of the hidden module.
- Toggle it back from Hidden to visible.
Students will see the module the next time they open the course. Any progress they had on lessons in that module (if it was previously visible) is preserved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I hide individual lessons instead of an entire module?
The hide toggle works at the module level. To hide a single lesson, you can move it into its own module and hide that module, or remove the lesson content temporarily and re-add it later.
What's the difference between hiding a module and using drip-release scheduling?
Hiding a module is a manual on/off toggle — you control exactly when it becomes visible. Drip-release scheduling automatically reveals modules on set dates (calendar-based) or relative to when each student enrolls (individual release dates). Use hiding for ad-hoc control, and drip release for a structured schedule.
Will hiding a module affect students who already completed lessons in it?
If a module was previously visible and students completed lessons in it, their progress is saved. When you make the module visible again, those lessons still show as completed.
