View your site as another user (Mimic)

In this article: How to use the Mimic feature to see your Pro site from another user's perspective, and what to watch out for while you're there. Pro

What Mimic does

Mimic lets you view your Pro site exactly as another person sees it -- without needing their password. When you mimic a student, you see their course list, their progress, their view of each lesson. When you mimic a guide (instructor), you see their courses and their Manage Course menu.

It's the fastest way to answer "what does this look like on their end?"

When to use it

  • Troubleshooting. A student reports they can't see a lesson or their payment didn't go through. Mimic their account to see exactly what they see.
  • Reviewing an instructor's setup. Check how a guide has configured their course content, pricing, or sales page before it goes live.
  • Testing the student experience. Before launching a course, mimic a test student to walk through enrollment, content, and completion from their perspective.
  • Verifying branding. See how your brand options and course styling look from a student's point of view.
Important: Mimic is not read-only. Any changes you make while mimicking -- editing a course, updating a profile, submitting an assignment -- affect that user's real account. If you're just looking, avoid clicking edit or save buttons.

How to mimic an account

  1. Log in to your Pro site as an Admin.
  2. Click People in the left sidebar.
  3. Find the user you want to mimic. Use the search bar to look up their name or email.
  4. Click on the user to open their profile.
  5. Click the Mimic button.

Your view switches to that user's perspective immediately. A banner at the top of the screen confirms you're mimicking another account and shows whose account you're viewing.

How to stop mimicking

Click the Stop Mimicking button in the banner at the top of the screen. You'll return to your own Admin account immediately.

Tip: Stop the mimic session as soon as you've found what you need. It's easy to forget you're viewing someone else's account and accidentally make changes you didn't intend.

What you can and can't do

While mimicking, you can:

  • See everything the user sees: their courses, lessons, discussions, assignments, and payment history.
  • Navigate their course list and view content as they experience it.
  • Access their Manage Course menu (if mimicking a guide).
  • Test enrollment flows and see how branding appears.

Be aware:

  • Any edits, submissions, or setting changes you make are real. They apply to the mimicked user's account, not yours.
  • Only Admins can mimic. Guides and students don't have access to this feature.
  • The user is never notified. They won't know you viewed their account.

Common uses

"A student says they can't see Module 3." Mimic their account, navigate to the course, and check whether the module is visible. If it's locked behind a drip schedule or access restriction, you'll see the same thing they do.

"I want to test what new students experience." Create a test student account (or use an existing one with no enrollments), mimic it, and go through the enrollment process on your sales page. You'll see the full flow from signup to first lesson.

"A guide set up their course and I want to review it." Mimic the guide's account to see their course dashboard, content, and settings. You can review everything without asking them to share their screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the user get notified when I mimic their account?
No. Mimicking is invisible to the user. They don't receive any email or in-app notification.
Can I mimic another Admin's account?
Yes. Admins can mimic any account on the site -- other Admins, Guides, and Students.
I made an accidental change while mimicking. How do I undo it?
Stop mimicking first. Then go back to the affected user's profile via People in the sidebar (or mimic them again) and correct the change manually. There's no automatic undo for actions taken during a mimic session.
Can Guides or Students use Mimic?
No. Only Admin accounts have access to the Mimic feature. If a guide needs to see the student experience for their own course, an Admin can either mimic on their behalf and share findings, or temporarily elevate their role to Admin.
