Add downloadable files to lessons

In this article: How to attach files to a lesson so students can download PDFs, worksheets, slides, or any other resource.

All Plans

Before You Start

Downloadable files are a great way to give students resources they can use outside the course: worksheets, checklists, slide decks, templates, reference guides. The files appear as download links near the bottom of the lesson, so students can grab them after reviewing the lesson content.

You can add as many files as you need to a single lesson. File size limits are 2 GB per file on Core plans and 4 GB on Pro.

Add Downloads to a Lesson

  1. Open the lesson where you want to add files (go to Manage Course → Modules & Lessons and click the lesson name).
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the lesson editor and click the Download button on the left side of the dark gray action bar.

  1. The button changes from gray to green, confirming downloads are enabled for this lesson.

  1. Click +Add Download to open the file picker.

  1. Select one or more files from your computer. You can add as many as you need.

Preview the Downloads

Click Student View in the top right corner to see how the files appear to students.

Download links show up near the bottom of the lesson. Students click a link to download the file directly.

Tips for Downloadable Files

  • Name files clearly. Students see the file name as the download link, so "Week-1-Worksheet.pdf" is more helpful than "doc_final_v3.pdf."
  • Use PDFs for worksheets and guides. PDFs display consistently across devices and are easy for students to print.
  • Mention the download in the lesson text. A quick note like "Download the worksheet below and complete it before the next lesson" helps students know the resource is there.
