Organize files in your media library
In this article: How to upload, find, and organize your files in the media library, and reuse them across your courses. All Plans
What the media library is for
Every video, image, audio clip, and document you add to Ruzuku lands in your media library. It's one place to find a file again, see which courses use it, and drop it into a new lesson without uploading it twice.
For example, if you use the same welcome video in three courses, upload it once. Then pick it from the library each time you need it.
To open it, click Media in the left-hand menu. Only instructors see this page.

Upload files
- Click Upload.
- Under Destination folder, pick a folder, or leave it as Unfiled.
- Click Choose files.
- In the Upload or record window, click Choose file and select one or more files from your computer. You can also drag or paste files into the window, or click Take photo, Record video, or Record audio.
Files upload one at a time, and each one shows its progress. If a file fails, click Retry to try it again or Skip to leave it out. The rest of the batch keeps going, so you don't have to start over.
When the batch is done, a files added list at the top of the library shows each file and the folder it went to. Click View file to preview one, or Open folder to jump to its folder.
Crop or rotate images before they upload
- One image: the Edit Image window opens. Click Crop or Rotate if you need to, then click Upload. If you change nothing, the original file uploads.
- Several images: you'll see a preview of each one. Click an image to crop or rotate it, then click Upload all images.
You can also add files while you edit a lesson. Click Add media in the editor toolbar, then use Choose file or drag a file into the window. Those files are saved to your library too.
Organize with folders
Folders appear in the sidebar, under All files, Unfiled, and Archived.
- Create a folder: Click New folder and give it a name.
- Move a file: Open the file's menu and choose Move to folder….
- Move several files: Tick the files, then click Move to folder… in the bar that appears.
- Rename or delete a folder: Use the folder's menu in the sidebar. Deleting a folder doesn't delete its files. They become Unfiled.
- Archive a file you're done with: Open its menu and choose Archive. It moves to Archived. To bring it back, open it there and choose Unarchive.
A simple setup works well: one folder per course, or one per type of resource (for example, "Worksheets" and "Intro videos").
Tag files
Tags work across folders. A file can have several tags, so you can mark a worksheet as both "Week 1" and "Printable".
- Tag one file: Open its menu and choose Edit tags….
- Tag several files: Tick them, then click Edit tags… in the bar that appears.
- Create, rename, or delete tags: Open the tag filter and choose Manage tags…. To create a tag, type its name in the search field.
Find a file
Use the controls at the top of the library:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search | Finds files by name as you type and highlights the match |
| File type | Shows only images, videos, audio, or documents |
| Tag | Shows only files with one tag |
| Course | Shows only files used in one course, with a count for each course |
| Sort | Recently used or Date added |
Click any file to preview it. The preview also shows which courses use that file.
Reuse a file in a lesson
- In the lesson editor, click Add media.
- Click Browse media library. If the file is one of your last six, you can click it under Recently used instead.
- In the library, tick the file you want.
- Click Add.
The file goes in where your cursor was. A file from Recently used goes in as soon as you click it.
